After 16 years of employing winemakers at del Rios, 2017 is the year that Gus del Rio, the owner, became the winemaker. It was a step that the family has been looking to make for a while. No one cares for your product as much as you do.
"Making wine is like making babies, you want to make your own." Gus del Rio
We believe this passion is exhibited across the entire vintage, especially the AD Chardonnay, which is the inaugural wine of our new AD reserve label. The AD label represents exceptional wines from our Mt Anakie vineyard, produced in small quantities, and released in only the best years.
The 2017 season exhibited greater rainfall than usual and was a marginally cooler season. Harvest started on the 3rd of March 2017 with our Chardonnay and finished in the last week of April with the Cabernet Sauvignon. The drawn-out growing season resulted in intense and well-balanced fruit. The overall yields were in-line with our 20-year average and showing all the right signs for a great season.
