2017 del Rios 'AD' Chardonnay
The 2017 AD Chardonnay is the inaugural wine of the 'AD' range, which are exceptional wines from our Mt Anakie vineyard, produced in small quantities and released in only the best years.
A light to medium yellow appearance. An intense nose with peach, lemon zest, and hints of toasted nuts and grapefruit. A rich full-bodied wine with well-balanced acidity and oak, a creamy mouthfeel in harmony with minerality and a long generous finish.
94 Rating - Huon Hooke - Light to medium yellow colour, with a youthful, lightly-toasted cashew nut aroma, overlaid by a subtle veneer of 'chicken stock' sulfides. The wine is rich and quite full-bodied, with an opulence that belies its youth and cool-climate origins. Firm, tangy acidity. A rich generously flavoured chardonnay. (40% new Sirrugue oak. Volcanic soil).
94 Rating - Gary Walsh - From Rochdale to Del Rios. Though I certainly no longer spend half my life in transit…Funky struck match and roast chicken thing happening here, preserved lemon, aniseed, grilled peach, and nuts. It’s creamy and rich, but firm with ripe grapefruit flavour and acidity, plenty of flint and chalky texture, falling to savory and umami on a long and zesty finish. Well, it does not lack impact!
