We source our tempranillo fruit from high up at the cool end of the King Valley with a climate that reflects where the best Spanish Tempranillo grows. Grown by Marco and Gina Martinelli who are old family friends of the del Rio and Cueli families where Gus and his family spent their summer vacations many years ago but now the two family's are reunited through with what could not be more appropriate - a Spanish grape variety.
The machine harvested fruit was conveyed to a contract winery due to the quarantine issues surrounding phylloxera for the initial crushing, destemming before fermenting in closed fermenters and pressed off skins after 10 days. The wine was subsequently shipped down to Geelong where it was conveyed to barrels immediately of which 33% was new Sirugue French oak. The wine spent the next 11 months quietly there with just one racking after 8 months and regular topping. The wine was simply racked and filtered in February before bottling in March 2017.
